1. Background, Objectives and Motivation
I organized lunchtime meetings in response to the requests of employees with shorter workdays after their return from childcare leave. They asked for meetings that will enable the sharing of information. These meetings are being held with the aim of improving the workplace environment in ways that will enable our returning employees to work comfortably. This involves sharing the challenges, the concerns, and the realizations experienced by such employees. I took on this initiative with the desire to produce effective improvements that leverage the comments of employees with shorter workdays.
2. Description of Specific Initiatives
I shared the comments that arose in the meetings with my superiors and was able to improve the in-house environment. The act of assigning a temporary instructor was established as a rule for fostering uniformity within the Division. The purpose of this was to dispel the concerns about the changes in the workflow or systems that may have occurred during the employees' leave. I'm working to coordinate with other divisions through my superiors to realize other improvements.
3. Going Forward
Through this initiative, I discovered that many employees with shorter workdays have concerns about what their co-workers think of them. To dispel this concern, I felt that the following was necessary: Establish mutual understanding, such as by dividing duties in ways that are fair and establishing universal recognition of the issues after comprehensively reviewing the entire picture. As such, I would like to continue doing everything I can and help create a workplace that is comfortable to work in for both the employees with shorter workdays and their co-workers.
