Shonai Area (Sakata, Tsuruoka), Yamagata Prefecture
Coastal Cleaning Activities and Environmental Conservation Learning Tour

Overview While experiencing the company plan Naradewa Plan: Shonai Hotel Suiden Terrasse, this program involved deepening participants’ understanding of environmental conservation by viewing the film “The Microplastics Story: Building 2050 Together” (cosponsored by the Beautiful Yamagata-Mogami River Forum) and helping to beautify the beach through Coastal Cleaning Activities (Supo Gomi). To ensure that it had an impact beyond simple cleanup activities, after a lecture on the current state of ocean wastes participants thought about hints for solutions to the issue of marine plastics in a workshop in which they made kaleidoscopes using microplastics (led by the Nonprofit Organization Partnership Office).

・ I really enjoyed the Supo Gomi activity. I wanted to keep going, despite the poor weather. (Participant M)

Comments from a partner organization

Thank you very much for allowing us to participate in your activity.

We plan to continue this activity next year and beyond, for the general public. We would appreciate your continued cooperation.

Comments from the staff member responsible

While normally we honestly have little time to think about the environment of ocean wastes in our busy schedule, this event in which we were able to think about the environment a little, with the participation of people from both inside and outside the company, gave me a feeling of accomplishment. I plan to build on this experience in preparing to offer a program for the general public from spring through autumn beginning next year, as a continual SDGs activity.
