The Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 are attracting a lot of attention worldwide.
JTB has concluded a Tokyo 2020 Sponsorship Programme agreement with the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee (President: Yoshiro Mori) to become a Tokyo 2020 Official Travel Services Partner.
A large number of people gathered at the press conference held by JTB in Tokyo on 31 March 2016 (Thurs.) to announce the conclusion of the agreement.
Organising Committee President Yoshiro Mori was one of the people present at the press conference. JTB President & CEO Hiroyuki Takahashi shared his thoughts on becoming an Official Travel Services Partner of the world's largest event, the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.
President Takahashi began his talk by expressing his joy at being able to contribute to the success of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 as an Official Travel Services Partner. He said that inbound travellers to Japan are currently attracting a lot of attention and from the moment when the Olympic Flag was passed to Tokyo at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games Rio 2016, the world's interest in Tokyo has continued to rise.
It is believed that the number of inbound travellers to Japan will accelerate. “The large number of people from around the world who will come to the Tokyo 2020 Games are our valued customers and we want to welcome them with heartfelt Japanese-style hospitality,” President Takahashi enthusiastically said.
The Olympic Organising Committee has placed ‘recovery’ as one of the pillars of its Action & Legacy Plan. President Takahashi also touched on this in his talk, “One of our major objectives is to have as many people as possible witness the recovery efforts taking place, particularly in Tohoku. Currently, we are focused on providing inbound travellers with travel experiences to several regions throughout Japan to experience the attractions of regional culture and cuisine. We hope to work alongside the two other companies in the travel services category to make the Olympic Games a success from the perspective of ‘regional growth’.
“The 1964 Tokyo Paralympic Games are regarded as having provided the opportunity for recognition and popularisation of sports for the disabled. We also want to make the Tokyo 2020 Games an opportunity for the further penetration of universal tourism.” President Takahashi said. JTB currently employs athletes who are hoping to participate in the Paralympics through the JOC's ‘Athnavi’ career matching system. The entire travel and tourism industry is also actively cooperating with the Japan Tourism Agency to further expand and promote universal tourism so that everyone can experience the pleasure of travel regardless of age or physical limitation or disability.
President Takahashi said that just as the 2012 Games were a force for major change in London, Japan is endeavoring to use the opportunity presented by the Tokyo 2020 Games to bring about radical change on a country-wide level. He characterised the four years leading up to 2020 as a ‘golden age’ of many kinds of opportunities for Japanese society, which has inspired the JTB slogan.
“The Olympics and Paralympics provide greater inspiration than any other event in the world. The slogan of JTB is ‘Perfect moments, always’ and we perceive the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020 as the perfect stage for putting our slogan into practice. We are grateful for the opportunity to be able to participate in the Games as an Official Partner. All JTB employees will do their utmost to provide travel services that touch the heart. We will make every effort to contribute not only to the success of the Games, but also to the creation of legacies for future generations that stretch far beyond 2020.”
We hope you will look forward to JTB's activities as we look towards 2020 and into the future.
